For all 50 of you, I deeply apologize but there will be no newsletter this week.
At the time of writing this, I’m in Casablanca attending a summer writing workshop hosted by the Olive Writers NGO.
I’m meeting some great writers (even the royal spokesperson) and improving my writing craft.
Hopefully, should make my new work even better.
In the meantime, I’ll leave you with some thoughts to ponder and an update about me.
A Departing Thought
How do you feel about language?
As Moroccans (or North Africans in general), we live the aftermath of French colonization. We learn Arabic due to our religion, French due to our education, and English due to the media.
We’re one of the new nations that can speak more than three languages and that’s pretty cool.
However, I’ve noticed that there seems to be a class/cultural struggle related to language where each person judges the other.
I’ve come up with the perfect summary for this:
Speak French to seem smart, speak English to seem cool, speak Arabic to seem passionate, and speak Darija to seem relatable.
I would love to hear more about this from your perspective.
What I’ve been up to
It only makes sense that during a workshop, every publication accepts my pitches. Just another unstable day for freelancers.
Nonetheless, here’s what I’ve been up to:
Not writing this newsletter
Attending the summer camp and working on its assignment
Preparing resources for two pitches to write
